Tokyo, Japan (Tokyo Station, Yaesu South Exit)
Recently The Four Seasons announced that they had revamped their afternoon tea including a new name to the location (Motif Restaurant & Bar). From their press release, it doesn’t seem like much else has changed; so this should still be relevant.
Previously named the Ekki Bar & Grill, located on the 7th floor, it offers good views of the trains going by at Tokyo Station (if you’re into that sort of thing). Being relatively low, you won’t get the expansive views that would you see at the Mandarin or Shangri-la.
They didn’t serve on the regular 3 tiered stand, instead opting for a large round tray and handle. The table was pretty crowded, and the large handle created a barrier in the middle of the table. Since it impeded conversation, we had the tray removed.
The main staples of their menu seem to have stayed the same even with the restaurant renaming (mini wagyu burger and truffle popcorn).
Before, there was an option to add foie gras on top of your wagyu burger for an additional fee; they may offer this option again in the future. The burger was flavorful and juicy, a nice twist on the regular sandwiches.
The truffle popcorn, on the other hand, didn’t have as distinct a flavor of truffles as I had hoped. So it ended up being something we didn’t devote much time to.
Everything was good, but nothing really stood out as being amazing. Even the decor was comfortable but didn’t feel as luxurious as the other hotel teas for around the same price.
Tea 4/5, unlimited, good variety
Atmosphere 3/5, ask for a seat by the window
