Tokyo, Japan (Mitsukoshimae Station)
Recently, I had been going to hotel teas and decided that I’d check out a more informal option. This time we opted for Fortnum & Mason in the Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Annex (not to be confused with the main store building). The Fortnum & Mason store and cafe is located on B2, so don’t go expecting any views or sunlight for that matter.
They offer a number of options for afternoon tea, including a typical 3 tiered stand, just scones, just sandwiches, or just cake.
Being a relatively cheap afternoon tea, I think it was a good value for money if you’re just looking for a quick and dirty tea. The food was pretty good; although the sweets were definitely geared towards the Japanese taste for cakes (sponge and cream).
As matches with the price, the general feeling is casual. The cafe was filled with housewives with or without children, which can be rather noisy. I wouldn’t go expecting a relaxing afternoon.
If you’re in the area and just looking for a shorter pit-stop, this might be a good option.
Tea 3/5, one choice (refillable), Fortnum & Mason teas
Atmosphere 2/5, beware of housewives and kids
