What a confusing and long name for a hotel (there seems to be a bit of debate on what the actual name of the hotel is). Despite this, The Grand Amsterdam by Sofitel is not too far from the Dam Square and is in a lovely historic building. Built in 1578, the building is set back from the road with an inner courtyard.
Contrasting with the outside facade, The Library ‘Or’ has a contemporary gentlemen’s lounge feel, complete with a gas fireplace. Having made a reservation, I expected to be seated further inside by a window. Disappointingly, I was seated at the outermost table of the library (not close to the fireplace or windows). Being off of the main lobby, the draft was a bit chilly as people came in and out of the hotel.
The food was good but not especially memorable.
The biggest downfall was the service. The waitstaff was not to be found for the most part. So, if you go and want more tea or pay, good luck to you.
Tea 3/5, unlimited, limited variety
Atmosphere 2/5, ask for a seat by the window if you want more light and heat
Overall 2/5, (rounding down for this one)
