Prague, Czech Republic
Once my friend knew that I was going to Prague for the weekend, she said that I had to get a chimney cake with ice cream. So I did a little bit of research, and it seems like Good Food Coffee & Bakery was the first to come up with the idea. I had actually had a plain chimney cake with cinnamon sugar while I was in Budapest. So I was looking forward to having one again, with improvements.
Good Food is located just to the east of the Charles Bridge on the very crowded Karlova. Not only was the street busy, Good Food also had a sizable line.
Chimney cakes are kind of like a donut and baum kuchen hybrid.
There are a couple of different variations for the Chimney cake fillings, but I went for my friend’s recommendation. I had the Blizzard Chimney cake, filled with ice cream and, surprisingly, chocolate at the bottom. (I assume the chocolate is there to seal the hole in the bottom, so the ice cream doesn’t leak out.) Yum!
If you’re in Prague, try one!
*Warning: they are pretty big and filling. Be prepared to walk around afterwards.
