Afternoon Tea at Drawing Rooms, Ham Yard Hotel London

London, UK
October 2016

The Ham Yard Hotel is part of the Firmdale Group and is located a few minutes walk from both Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus Stations.  There are a number of different rooms to have tea in, 2 drawing rooms and the orangery.  We were seated in one of the drawing rooms.  If it’s a nice day, booking the orangery could be nice.

On the cheaper side for teas, I expected this to be pretty casual.  There are only 3 teas to choose from, or you can pay a supplement for other teas.  You can get more hot water, but you can’t change teas.

The sandwiches were not good at all.  Very dry and stale.  Enough said.

The scones were ok.  They were soft and had a closed texture from overkneading, but passable.

Lots of desserts, but not enough for each person to get one of each (except for the macarons).  These sweets were really all over the place.  The cream puff and the lemon poppyseed muffin were pretty good.  But the others, I could really do without.

Even though this was a cheaper/more casual tea, the food was still lacking.  We also had a few issues with the service.  They wanted people seated at opposite sides of the table to share a teapot, as well as only providing 2 tea strainers for 5 people.  If you’re going for a budget tea, I would choose a different option.

Alternatively, I have had drinks at the bar and received very good service.  Maybe just opt for this instead!
